REJECTED BY LADY TAOIST MASTER

I am quite sad that after taking so much time and trouble, not to mention about paying hard cash to guides that gave wrong information on her whereabouts, I was told that the lady Taoist master had rejected me completely. She sent this message via her assistant. She regard it as a waste of her time to meet me and that she rather spend the precious time helping many other people who are in trouble.
Actually I don’t blame her at all. She had been challenged by other feng shui masters and even Taoist shamans that she trusts no one now. Her secret temple had been broken into and ransacked by jealous people who want to sabotage her. The press had been hounding her and I feel that she is very reluctant of the publicity that she gets after solving a famous case that all others in her type of trade could not.
I now let the Tao just flow, if somehow we get to meet each other, it will be good because then my ability to help my patients will be COMPLETE and Holistic. You see I use my medical training to solve health issues and for certain appropriate cases, my medical feng shui know-how or energy healing methods. I suspect, in some cases, all these methods will fail and what these patients need is to be exorcised. This ability is what I am lacking and I need to refer such patients to this lady with a great good reputation. There is no hanky panky or scams and my patients will be safe in her hands. This is utmost important to me.
I had refrained from sending such patients to my other contact because the medium had to give up his mediumship due to some very complicated reasons. That is why I am looking for another. Looks like I will need to keep on searching for the time being. Excuse me, I need to meditate now.

MORE ON THE GEORGE TOWN FESTIVAL, JULY 1-30TH,2011

This is a fiesta for everyone. Corporations plus volunteers are doing their best to present Penang to the world in the month of this July. Penangites have stepped up to the call and volunteer their services and proposing performances, making this Festival really belonging to Penang.

A PREDICTION

I am going to make some prediction but before I do so, I will need to talk about some very simplified, basic Chinese metaphysics first. What I am about to write will not make you understand even a tiny bit of Chinese metaphysics but at least you will not be lost completely. It is also to try demonstrate to you how the Chinese mind think and this I can vouch for you- it is very, very abstract! So let the talk begin!

First there are the 10 Heavenly Stems- (Think of these as Energies)

Jia(HS01) wood yang
Yi(HS02) wood yin
Bing(HS03) fire yang
Ding(HS04) fire yin
Wu(HS05) earth yang
Ji(HS06) earth yin
Geng(HS07) metal yang
Xin(HS08) metal yin
Ren(HS09) water yang
Gui(HS10) water yin

Then there are the 12 Earthly Branches-

Rat
Zi(EB01) water yang
Ox
Chou(EB02) earth yin
Tiger
Yin(EB03) wood yang
Rabbit
Mao(EB04) wood yin
Dragon
Chen(EB05) earth yang
Snake
Si(EB06) fire yin
Horse
Wu(EB07) fire yang
Goat
Wei(EB08) earth yin
Monkey
Shen(EB09) metal yang
Rooster
You(EB10) metal yin
Dog
Xu(EB11) earth yang
Pig
Hai(EB12) water yin

Thus with these, the Chinese almanac was formed, with energy distribution in terms of the 5 Elements and the Yin- Yang classification. Each Cycle is 60 years.
The next you need to know are the 6 Combinations – ie “Good”

1. Rat and Ox
2. Tiger and Pig
3. Rabbit and Dog
4. Dragon and Rooster
5. Snake and Monkey
6. Goat and Horse

The 6 Clashes are – ie “bad’
1. Rat clash Horse
2. Ox clash Goat
3. Tiger clash Monkey
4. Rabbit clash Rooster
5. Dragon clash Dog
6. Snake clash Pig

Now things are getting exciting. But I must admit these are not enough for one to even start calculating as more energy relationships and formulae are needed. However this is just to demonstrate to you how we do energy calculations.
The Chinese use two types of calendars- the Solar and the Lunar. For Chinese metaphysics calculations we use the Solar type. Lay people use the popular Lunar type. The art of Date Selection precedes the Han Dynasty ( 206 BC – 220 AD) but reaching its epoch during the time of Emperor Qian Long (1711-1799).
In my next posting, I will reveal my prediction on something based on BaZi calculations. This will be in the early part of next month of July, in fact by the 1st week, I hope I will remember to do so, otherwise do remind me!

THE SU SHU, BOOK OF PLAIN WORDS

Chang Tse- Fang noticed a strange looking old man by the river and went to have a closer look at him. Without a word, the man kicked his sandals into the river and Chang went to retrieve it for him. The old man did this another two times and Chang retrieved for him in as many times. Then the old man said, “Good. You will do. Meet me here in five days’ time in the morning”

When Chang went to meet the old man by the same river, he was reprimanded by the strange fellow for letting an old man wait, so he told Chang to come again the next morning. Although Chang was very early, the old man was there waiting again! He was again told to meet him the next morning. This time Chang slept by the river to make sure he was there to meet the old man and not make him wait. Chang was successful this time as he saw the old man approach him.

“Now you should have the reward due to you!” said the old man and gave him a manuscript. Chang studied the manuscript and later in life he became the Marquis of Lin in the Tsin Dynasty of 247-244 BC.

I now give you some wisdom from the manuscript which was very heavy on the conduct of a proper politician of which I have omitted. This summary represent only about 30% of the whole document. The old man was the Taoist Sage Huang Shin Kung or Yellow Stone.

1.         Tao, Virtue, Benevolence, Rectitude and Decorum, these 5 things are all One Principle, is the way that all men should walk

2.         Restrain the passions

3.         Renounce evil

4.         Avoid over indulgence

5.         Study extensively

6.         Plan for the future

7.         Abhor the wicket

8.         Cultivate Virtue

9.         Have goodness

10.       Be sincere in word and deed

11.       Nothing is more bitter than covetousness and unfairness

12.       You are ignorant if you proclaim you are cleverest

13.       Those who are unconscious of their own faults are blind

14.       Those who provoke animosity will incur disaster

15.       He who brings shame on others will meet with retribution

THE DIABETIC EPIDEMIC

This is my first medical topic. As had mentioned before, I wish this site to be one that my readers will benefit. So be prepared for a scientific account of Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2.

Diabetes is the 4th largest cause of mortality in developed countries and becoming an epidemic in many developing countries.

Prevalence

Worldwide, about 285 million or 6.6% of age group 20-79 had diabetes in 2010. And this is expected to increase to 438 million or 7.8% of adult population by 2030. The North America and Caribbean Region have the highest prevalence at 12.1% of its adult population.

Age distribution

The 40-59 year group are mostly affected

Gender distribution

There are about 1 million more women than men with diabetes and this difference is expected to increase by 6 million by 2030.

Risk factors

Both genetics and environment play important roles as excess animal fat consumption, lack of exercise and obesity.

Mortality due to Diabetes

The number of deaths due to diabetes in 2010 showed an increases of 5.5% over that for the year 2007. Regionally, there was an increase of 29% in N.America, 12% in South East Asia and 11% in Western Pacific Region.

Complications in Type 2 Diabetes

These results from both microvascular and macrovascular effects. The former cause renal, retinal and neurological damages while the latter involve in strokes, myocardiac infarction and peripheral vascular disease. About 80% die from cardiovascular complications. Diabetics have coronary heart disease mortalities that are 2 to 4 times those of nondiabetics, and they are twice as likely to suffer from strokes. Retinopathy is present in more than a third of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics. About 20% of diabetics die from renal disease, first seen as microalbuminaemia between 30-300mg/day and later as macroalbuminaemia of more than 300 mg/day.

Results from important Trials

In the UKPDS study, it showed that intensive glycaemic control with a sulfonylurea or insulin that achieved a mean HBA1c level of 70% over a 10 year period was associated with a 255 reduction in microvascular end pounts, with a less significant 16% reduction in risk for myocardiac infarction(P=0.052). Thus for every percentage point of decrease in HBA1c there was a 35% reduction in the risk of microvascular complication.

In the Steno-2 study(2003) it confirmed the good effect of multifactorial intervention with its 50% reduction in risk of cardiovascular disease.

Conclusion

You need to know if you are a pre- diabetic, recently diagnosed diabetic or a diabetic with complications as treatment regimes differ greatly. Do something for yourself, get your blood sugar checked and if in the diabetic range, get it controlled!

THE STRANGE TEMPLE

The elusive Temple of the lady Taoist Master - A perfect hide out!

MISSION : IMPOSSIBLE

I was anxious to start my journey to try tract down the lady Taoist Master who has gone into hiding after being very famous with her ghost busting abilities and hordes of press reporters too were looking for her. In my first attempt on my own, I failed miserably although I spent some hours looking for the so- called landmarks at the jungle fringes. It was a bad luck day too as far as the Chinese Tung Shu goes and of which I had forgotten to refer.

This time, it was different – I chose a good luck day plus I have a guide with me. In fact he was the only one who agreed to take me there from the so many I had contacted. However he will not venture into the jungle because he was scared the hell out of his wits the last time he went with some other persons. He could feel the presence of spirits in broad daylight around the path that leads to her hide out. So my guide, Mr Yeap took me as close as possible for my jeep to go and then told me to stop and go by a certain path on foot. He left immediately, wasted no time at all and I was left all alone.

I walked along the path and discovered it leads to a slope that was almost vertical and I had to slowly go down the slippery rocky out crops. Then I saw her small temple way below. It was a perfect hide out. My guide was right. I made my way carefully and said some prayers for protection. I was already perspiring so much from the hot, humid atmosphere. No sunlight could penetrate the thick jungle canopy though. Finally I got to the small temple but found no one there. It was deserted and very unkempt. Dead leaves were everywhere and thick on the floor. There were few furniture and all were so old and rickety. The walls of the temple had moss growing on certain parts. Inside the temple were 3 Taoist Deities and rather fierce-looking too. I paid respects to them. I found out that the temple was an abandoned one and thus the jungle had grown and covered it up almost and she used it as her hide out at times. I wrote a note for her and left it on the alter, hoping that she will respond and call me up. I now leave it to karma. If we are to meet, then we will. I can’t keep coming here to look for her as it is quite remote and I too felt the creeps and decided to make a quick exit.

Mission accomplished, but only 50%

TAOIST MASTERS AND THEIR PHILOSOPHIES...PART TWO

In this Part 2, I have more of such ancient Taoist wisdom from Zhuang Zi unless otherwise stated . The way to read this is to contemplate, meditate on these wise sayings –

  1. Before Time, every thing was One
  2. He who understands that all is One, has conquered the inexhaustible
  3. Who am I in reality? A butterfly who dreams he is Zhuang Zi, or Zhuang Zi who dreamt he was a butterfly? 9The most famous quote from him)
  4. To last, one must moderate oneself, without going to the extreme in anything, always sticking to the middle way
  5. The Sage does not rejoice at births and is not affected by deaths
  6. Now this whole is the Tao, It can be transmitted but not grasped, apprehended but not seen; it existed before Heaven and Earth were formed. It was before formless matter, before space, before the worlds, before time.
  7. Too often those who are called Sages are only common men in the eyes of heaven
  8. One should not do violence to nature, even under pretext of putting it right.
  9. The complex should stay complex, the simple, simple
  10.  No! Goodness and fairness are not natural sentiments; otherwise they should be more apparent in the world
  11.  The common people kill themselves for money; the educated for reputation and nobles for the glory of their house
  12.  Alas, the artificial carried away the natural; in consequence peace and charity disappeared from the world
  13. I repeat, if the race of politicians come to be extinct, brigands would disappear and there would be perfect peace in this world
  14. It is artificial knowledge, against nature, which has caused all the ills of the world and the unhappiness of all those who inhabit it

SEARCH OF.........PART 2

Here is the follow up report of my trip to look for the elusive lady Taoist Master with extra- ordinary spiritual powers-
The trip proved to be a failure! I drove my 4WD to the suspected location where she had retreated to from the glare and irritating public attention. There was no address as it is supposed to be located off the main road and any tracks used by vehicles. I was told the ‘location” but advised to get off my jeep as the steep dirt track is only accessible by foot. The instructions were vague but I thought I had located the area. However I just could not make out any track at the fringes of the tropical forest in a remote part of my Island. I spend a few hours wandering about and had to accept failure. I then ventured out to civilization again and asked some people I met who are locals in the area but none could tell me where this elusive Taoist master was. I was by then tired and hungry and drove back.
When I got home, I checked on the Tongshu book and discovered that the energy for that day was very bad and inauspicious, the day of Year Breaker. I had made a fundamental error in not looking into this prior to my trip due to my eagerness in looking for her.
Anyway I received more information from one of my sources that the place she resides has a lot of evil spirits and one must be well protected when making a trip there. He is willing to bring me to the spot but will stay with the jeep as he is not willing to walk to her place deeper in the forest although he is well stocked with all sorts of amulets and talisman on his body. I will have to go alone. We plan this trip on the Day of Dragon, month of Wood Horse with Energy “Open” – an auspicious day.

IN SEARCH OF...............

I had heard of another very highly rated Taoist Master surfacing in recent years in my Island. And this one is a lady Master who specialises in ghost busting. She was getting much attention because of her great successes in ghost busting as well as an accomplished Feng shui master. Because she was getting very popular, many feng shui masters and other ghost busters were jealous of her fame and tried many ways to discredit or attack her in all manners- physically or spiritually trying to harm her. To my knowledge, she repelled every one of them.  Even her little shrine was partially destroyed by vandals.
In the world of Chinese metaphysics, I had witnessed several of these ‘wars” among different groups or different masters. This is what I don’t understand nor accept such behaviours. This was one reason why I didn’t see eye to eye with one of my feng shui master that resulted in a bad master- disciple relationship. Why can’t the masters live side by side with others? Why can’t they not challenge others so that they be crowned
Champion? I also see this in every profession, not just in the feng shui or Taoist masters but in the teaching, medical, engineering professions, you name it they are all in it.
This lady master has now gone into hiding at this time when I was about to try and meet her. No, I don’t want don’t want to challenge her but only to meet her and form an association so that I may refer some of my tough cases for spiritual treatment. I had gathered some information as to her whereabouts but my guide somehow was indisposed and not available. (The timing is most suspect!). Anyway I plan to jump on my 4WD and go try to tract her down and if I succeed, I hope our meeting will be comfortable and fruitful! Wait for my further report on this.

MORE ON THE I CHING

I realised that not many people know exactly what I Ching is, although I had made several references to it. Thus today I shall try to speak on the I Ching.

I Ching is also known as Book of Changes, which survived the Burning of the Books at the time of Emperor Shih Huang Ti (213BC). It was used as a Book of Divination but later after Chapters written by King Wen of Chou Dynasty (1150BC) and his son Duke of Chou, made it into a Book of Wisdom. Later Confucius added his Commentary to this Book but the name of Fu Xi (2852 BC), a legendary figure, was the earliest of the authors. The Book in its present format was derived from that arranged in the K’ang His Period (1662-1722).

It is said that it encompasses the macrocosm and microcosm of the Universe. In Chapter 6, of the Great Commentary part of I Ching, it is described as a vast and great book. It knows no limits and embraces everything. In Chapter 7, it described that when Man is in harmony with the teachings of the Book, the actions correspond with the Tao of the Universe and with Justice.

In Chapter 10, the passage mentioned that the Book contains the four Tao of the holy Sages; In speaking, we should be guided by its judgements; in action we should be guided by its changes; in making objects we be guided by its images and in seeking an oracle, we should be guided by its pronouncements.

Since I use the Book a lot for divination, I always recall the following advice from the Book – ‘First take up the words, Ponder their meaning, Then the fixed rules reveal themselves. But if you are not the right man, The meaning will not manifest itself to you.”

The entire 64 Hexagrams of the I Ching are derived from the basic 8 Trigrams.

Ch’ien
Creative
Heaven
Father
K’un
Receptive
Earth
Mother
Chen
Arousing
Thunder
Eldest son
K’an
Abysmal
Water
Middle son
Ken
Keeping still
Mountain
Youngest son
Sun
Gentle
Wind
Eldest daughter
Li
Clinging
Fire
Middle daughter
Tui
Joyous
Lake
Youngest daughter

The 64 Hexagrams are also linked to the 64 codons of the Genetic Code by modern Taoists.
I Ching for divination was devised by one Keng Fong of the Han Dynasty (206 BC) and a completely new style discovered by the famous I Ching master Shao Yung was introduced in the Sung Dynasty called the “Plum Blossom Oracle”. I consider Keng Fong’s method as the most difficult to master, although for some time I was using this method.

DISTANT HEALING

We are living in a physical world and time and distance are some of our constrains. Although we talk face to face but with technology we can use several modes of communication without moving an inch, like using the telephone, mobile phone, internet and computers. Thus I do not need to go to your house to talk to you. This is advancement.
However when one is unwell, one has to go to the clinic or hospital to see a doctor for diagnosis and medication. But in the esoteric thinking, distance has no meaning. A capable healer can heal the sick without being physically close to the patient. Thus whether the patient is 1 km or 1,000 km away is no big deal because he can still do something to heal the person. This is distant healing and so is a superior in a way since the physical barrier of distance is no more relevant. Reiki healing is one such quantum leap because the practitioner can send healing energies to the patient no matter where the person resides. Likewise Qi Gong masters can do the same. Thus western trained doctors can do no thing at all if the patient is not in front of them. One up for esoteric forms of healing.
The next thing the doctor requires are his instruments for diagnosis and treatment, like the x- rays, MRI scans, CT scans, Radiotherapy machines, etc. Without these, even if the patient is in front of him, the doctor can do nothing at all. The score now is 2 to nothing!
I have on many occasions used Reiki energy channeling for both diagnosis and treatment, many times using it as a First Aid on the spot treatment, thus not having to feel so helpless that my stethoscope or medicines are not with me. This is better than rocket science !
In doing a feng shui audit, the master has to be at the location to take luopan readings and to survey the environment. But since I am very busy and so unable to go to the building/house for fengshui assessment, I now use the equivalent of quantum physics to get an assessment of the said property without needing to leave my house! I use the method of I Ching, the ultimate in Chinese metaphysical science.

METHODS THAT I EMPLOY TO HEAL

I thought that being a medical man was enough but how wrong I was. Even though I have gone deep into my medical training, from basic medical degree to Diplomas , Fellowship and a Master's, I was still feeling inadequate to help my patients. Thus in my quest to increase my knowledge, I trained myself in the following fields and I use them whenever appropriate -
a) Reiki Healing methods
b) Feng shui
c)  Taoist prayer
d)  I Ching divinition (mainly to investigate out comes)
e)  Classical Chinese Traditional Medicine (Body Space Medicine)
f)  La- jin and Pai- da methods of Master Xiao
Just like many roads lead to Rome, many methods are available for me to use.

It was a 3 hour performance - you can imagine how tiring it is for the opera actors/actresses. The story usually comes from the Period of the Three Kingdoms era.
Taoist Opera - could be a rare treat in the near future because of dwindling performers. This was in conjunction with a Taoist diety's birthday celebration

TAOIST MASTERS AND THEIR PHILOSOPHIES- PART ONE

There were many but three names are most popular- Lao Tzu, Lie Zi and Zhuang Zi. All their works were very complicated, especially that of Lao Tzu's Tao Te Ching. This was written for Yin Xi, the Guardian of the Pass, who had asked Master LaoTzu to write something so that his knowledge will not be lost to the world before allowing Lao Tzu to proceed to the mountains and never to be seen again. Confucius had travelled far just to meet and spar with LaoTzu, in 501 BC and left shaking his head, saying Lao Tzu was the most complicated Dragon.
Lie Zi came only to be known when in 398 BC he was driven to find new pastures in the famine of that year while Zhuang Zi was mention by Sima Qian aroung 330 BC.
In the list below, I will attempt to give some idea of the ancient Sages' wisdom which formed the basis of Taoist teachings. The following were attributed to mainly Lie Zi or others of his time.
1. There is a Producer that has not been Produced and a Transformer that is not transformed. The Yin-Yang is the Producer, the Cycle of the Four Seasons is the Transformer.
2.There were the following stages - great mutation, great origin, great beginning, great flux
3. Being that perishes here is born again elsewhere; one that is added here, is subtracted from somewhere.
4. When Shang Giu Kai went into fires unscathed and asked for the secret, he answered, " I have no formula, I go as my natural instinct pushes me, without knowing why nor how it is done.
5. Any attention paid to the exterior troubles or changes the interior
6. The best use that one can make of speech is to keep silent. The best action is not to act. To embrace everything that is knowable ends with but superficial knowledge.
7. He who has reached perfect union with the Cosmos can no longer be wounded by any being; he can penetrate metal and stone as he wished; he can walk freely on water and through fire.
8. When his student was leaving  him for another master, Hu Zi said " You do not know all my doctrines. I have only given you the exoteric teachings and not the esoterics."
9. Common people's subject of conversation are poison to the perfect man.
10. For the Taoists, sentiment is an error, emotions a fault.
11. There are those who can maintain peace without governing, inspire confidence without speaking, make everything work without interfering.
12. He who has found what he was seeking, no longer speaks of it. Nan Guo Zi's silence is more meaningful than any word.
13. Every excess brings ruin
14. He who knows how to hide his strength is stronger tha he who exercises it
15. Time is infinite, according to you. What do you think od space? Xia Ji replied "Void is infinite"

BEYOND THE TAO

In my search for truth, I knew I had to explore many more areas, beyond what I am trained as. Thus I have studied Buddhism up to the Diploma level. I had also enrolled in the Hinduism class for a Certificate. My spiritual journey also took me to the master of a small not well known Indonesian sect and as before, I had to pass their interview, both physical and spiritual format before I could be initiated into their small community. (Sorry I can't reveal the name of their sect). It seemes the peacocks rejoiced at my joining them.
Although I had very basic martial art training, after doing the exercises of the group, some strange energy arose within my body to make involuntary movements that looked like a form of dance, even at times like that of a martial art form. But what I am sure is that it is not my Kundalini.
Yes, I had gone beyond the comfort zone, other than The Tao. And I am still learning. All of us must keep on learning, improving ourselves. In following my posts, I hope you will be able to pick something good and beneficial.
