SOME EXPERIENCES WITH LOCK DOWN DUE TO COVID-19



I have listed some random experiences we have due to Nation wide Lockdown with our MCO – Movement Control Order – to stop spread of Covid- 19 infection. This experience will be very useful for those where this Lockdown had not been implemented as yet. At least you will know what exactly it is and take steps to face it, for eventually it may happen to you and your family.
CORONA MAYHEM - LOCKDOWN
1.       Businesses closed – affects livelihood of many/owners, workers suffer
2.       Road, Highways closed- those trying to go out with flimsy reasons are turned back or arrested if aggressive
3.       Shopping frenzy/ Food, other items shortage/run out, causing more panic, long ques at supermarkets
4.       Hand sanitizers, masks, gloves in short supply
5.       Schools, Universities, etc closed – studies affected, even via internet, students in Hostels stranded on their own. Students abroad facing a dilemma- stay on or fly home
6.       Parks closed; no hiking, jogging
7.       Car workshops closed, not able to get spare parts – warning to get anything that needs to be repaired done for those not in lockdown yet
8.       Cruise ships – not allowed to dock, passengers stranded and infecting one another, so if planning for one, cancel it
9.       No religious activities – yet many defied here
10.   Tours/Hotel cancellation/Airline industry – all badly affected
11.   Money changers no business/Taxi drivers/Grab, Trishaws affected
12.   Airlines closed – passengers stuck at airports, stranded, sleep at airports
13.   Factories closed – so no production, affecting supply chains, so multiplies the effect
14.   Goods already arrived stuck at Ports so expect long delays in deliveries
15.   Restaurants only take-aways or closed totally
16.   Police, Army out- leave denied for them
17.   Leave frozen for many other essential services- doctors, nurses, firemen, etc
18.   Stranded travellers in airports, stations:  overseas travellers worse, athletes in overseas training stranded
19.   Stay home also causing problems eg divorce triggered, abuse, family fights,
20.   Working from home- not that easy especially with young kids around
21.   Weddings, Funerals affected –for wedding receptions, many have to cancel it, and can’t get refunds
22.   Economy crushed, joblessness, crime rates like cybercrime increases
23.   Businesses go bust/bankrupt the longer the lockdown continues
24.   Retrenchments, no pay leave and uncertain future for workers
25.   Sporting event cancelled/postponed/Olympics also
26.   Hospitals over whelmed, medical staffs over worked, getting infected, some hospital had to close few days
27.   Hospitals run out of beds, ICU full, out of medical supplies, even Blood\
28.   Dental surgeries are closed
29.   Prices of most thing soars
30.   Bad human behaviour eg spitting on Lift buttons, racism, lootings
31.   Scams increase, bogus cures advertised
32.   Malware attacks when open attachments
33.   Volunteer groups formed to help but government policies a problem
34.   Food trucks stopped, road side stalls closed
35.   Borders closed – many stranded. Overseas students stranded – have to vacate hostels and can’t fly home
36.   Government services closed –  Road  Transport departments, Passport office, etc
37.   Performing Arts, cinemas, Entertainments closed
38.   Due to MCO- Movement Control Order- many can’t renew business, driving licenses
39.   Day cares closed- problems for working parents in essential services
40.   Those with kids having ADHDS, Down’s etc find it hard to be at home
41.   Beggars, the Homeless suffer tremendously
42.   Farm produce go to waste- no transportation to markets, had to be thrown
43.   Old folks living alone suffer- so do check on your elderly neighbours
44.     On line orders take off, food deliveries in demand
45.   Zoos suffer as no one is visiting, hence animal upkeep is very difficult with no revenue
46.   Car battery flat after too long being idle. Make sure you start the engine and run at least 15 minutes daily
