MORE ON THE GEORGE TOWN FESTIVAL, JULY 1-30TH,2011

This is a fiesta for everyone. Corporations plus volunteers are doing their best to present Penang to the world in the month of this July. Penangites have stepped up to the call and volunteer their services and proposing performances, making this Festival really belonging to Penang.
This celebration is due to the City, George Town, making it into the UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are over 80 performing groups lined up in the one month extravaganza. Internationally acclaimed designers, Yeohlee (London) and Zang Toi (New York) and renown shoe designer Jimmy Choo will be the regular faces in the first week of the Festival. Supermodal Ling Tan will also be there. Penangites will also be pleased to know that the Singaporean TV celebrity Tan Kheng Hua of the sitcome Phua Chu Kang will be showing off her acting skills when she will perform at the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion.
International singers Julie Mossay (Belgium), Ines Madeira (Portugal), Enrico Casari(Italy) and Kittanant Chinsamrin(Thailand) will be performing at the Gala Concert on July 17th. Even Akram Khan, the famed dancer and his group from UK will perform on July 20th, bringing along world renowned dancers from Europe, Asia and Middle East. Then there is the puppet show at the heritage hotel of Yeng Keng Hotel on Chulia Street by the Kim Giak Low Choon puppet troupe which was awarded the Penang Living Heritage Treasure Award in 2008. There are many more programs and I am just talking about the tip of the iceberg. Exciting July in my Island.
